Welcome to Old Alresford Parish Council web site, a resource for villagers and those interested in finding out about our village.

PARISH COUNCIL

The Parish Council is made up of five councillors and is elected every four years. Elections follow the same pattern as the election of Winchester City Council and the MP for Winchester and Chandler's Ford. Parish councils are the oldest form of civil government in England (older than county councils and far older than the present district councils); they are the successors of the earlier church parish councils (which now exist as parochial church councils).

Council meetings are held approximately monthly. Parishioners are invited to attend and can ask questions or raise concerns at the beginning of the meeting. We are part of The Alresfords ward of Winchester City Council and of Itchen Valley electoral division of Hampshire County Council. Councillors usually attend our meetings and provide valuable input. There is an Annual Parish Assembly in April of each year which parishioners are encouraged to attend.

Old Alresford is a rural parish stretching from New Alresford in the south-west (the boundary goes through the Gents of The Globe pub) to Upper Wield in the north-east; it contains the village of Old Alresford and the hamlets of Armsworth and Godsfield as well as Fobdown.

The businesses in the Parish are largely based around agriculture, with watercress, salad growing and cereal. There is also a care home.
