Village Speed Sign
We have an illuminated speed sign in the village, owned by the Parish Council and managed by a team of volunteers. The sign acts as a visual reminder for drivers of the 30mph speed limit throughout Old Alresford and logs the speed of every vehicle that drives towards it, together with the date and time (but not the vehicle registration).
The sign moves between three locations - opposite St. Mary's church, at the green, and outside of Southdowns. If the sign does not light up when you drive past, this could be due to it being set to monitor speeds and not display them. By doing this from time to time, we can see how average speeds compare when the sign is lit and when not, to establish whether it has any impact on reducing speeding through the village. Analysis to date suggests that it does have a significant impact.
If you have questions on the use of the speed sign, or would like to volunteer to help maintain it, please email speedsign@oldalresford-pc.gov.uk.
